Hatching an egg

We've (the broody has) just hatched an egg!

It all started when they met.....(she's an Australorp and he's a "Japanese Cross" - we don't know if that refers to his colours or the breed; is he a cross of colour types or is he a Japanese Bantam crossed with some other type of chicken?)  Either way...they're both very handsome.

I pushed her off to see what the egg was doing and to give her a break and lo and behold, the chick was pipping.....(this was 2 pm)

Don't you reckon you can tell that the chick is black?

...this is the next day (I fancy that the chick is still a little wet behind the ears), in the morning.  Supposedly it can take up to 20 hours or so for the chick to break free of the egg once it's pipped it and so it seems.

Look at that round little body!  With a blond bum.  So sweet.
